The consultative committee has nine members. Independent members of the Giant Trees Consultative Committee are:

Dr. Mick Brown (ecological consultant), Chairman

Ms. Jayne Balmer (Nature Conservation Branch, DPIWE)

Mr. Mark Fountain (Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens)

Mr. Don Frankcombe (retired forester)

Mr. Daniel Leesong (Tourism Council of Tasmania)

Assoc Professor Brad Potts (School of Plant Science, University of Tas)

Mr. Jerry Romanski (Tasmanian Arborists Association)

The Committee also includes two members of Forestry Tasmania's Giant Trees Technical Committee: Graham Sargison and John Hickey.

Terms of Reference

1. Review of nominations and recommending on suggested names using the following guidelines:
The Giant Trees Consultative Committee (D. Leesong absent)

i. named after inspirational themes (e.g. 2 Towers)
ii. named after tree features (e.g. Trident tree)
iii. named after historical event or feature (e.g. 3 Huts)
iv. named by location
v. named after people (e.g. historical figures, naturalists, foresters, botanists)
vi. named after finder.

2. Promote protection of Giant Trees.
3. Review the criteria for Giant Trees status over time.
4. Identify cohorts of exceptional regrowth for future replacement of existing senescent stands.
3. Encourage the development of a Giant Trees register across all land tenures.
4. Make recommendations for periodic assessments of size and health of Giant Trees.
5. Promote opportunities for access to Giant Trees for recreation and tourism.
6. Advise on Giant Trees education and promotion.
7. Promote the Giant Trees website.
